Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott

Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott congregated a few hundred people at the United States first women’s rights convention in New York. Together they demand civil, social, political and religious rights for women in a Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men and women are created equal.”
